Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver International Jazz Fest, June 20th to July 1st, featuring pay-what-you-can performances and ticketed events, PLUS 50 free shows from downtown to Granville Island and the North Shore. Headliners include Bill Frisell Trio with Thomas Morgan & Rudy Royston and the Richard Bona Asante Trio. Kick off the summer season with opening weekend’s free Downtown Jazz at the Vancouver Art Gallery on šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, June 21 and 22. Grab a drink and shake off the workday with the free Bentall Centre Happy Hour Series on the Dunsmuir Patio from 4-6pm, June 23 to 27. Granville Island serves as the hub of the Festival, with shows at Performance Works, Revue Stage and Ocean Artworks, which hosts free, all-ages shows from noon to sundown on Canada Day, July 1. Late night’s offer DJ dance parties under the stars, open jazz jams at Tyrant Studios and improvisational mashups at the Revue Stage.
