Hi, Randy Bartlett here, and I am so excited to be presenting at the Mobile Beat show in Las Vegas, Nevada, February 3rd through the 6th at the Riviera Hotel.
My brand new seminar is called “7 Habits of Highly Ineffective Wedding DJs.” It’s a new seminar where we’re going to examine some of the habits that we have that prevent us from accomplishing the goals that we want.
And for me, the goals are pretty simple. I’m looking for raving fans instead of satisfied customers. I’m looking for memories instead of music; for referrals instead of compliments; laughter instead of groans; tears instead of yawns; excitement instead of boredom.
Here’s a little sample from the seminar. Number three is programming for the music instead of for the moment. And what that means is as DJs we tend to get all into programming music, which makes sense because we’re DJs. But there’s so much more to it.
A wedding is not a dance. It’s a life cycle celebration at which there will be dancing. If we can create a moment that everybody is dancing to because the moment is powerful, then we can get Grandma and Grandpa out there dancing to Pitbull and we can get the young people out there dancing to something from the ’50s and 60s instead of having people every three minutes go, “Do I like this song? Oh, I don’t think so; I think I’ll sit down.”
So that’s just one short example, and of course we’ll go into a lot more detail when we have the full time available to us.
