Gary: Doing very good as always, Mark, how’s yourself? Mark: Good. So we’ve managed to get through our technical difficulties. We’re going to talk about the importance of your DJ experience. I’m going to ask Gary some tough ones, so Gary is this your full-time professional business? Gary: Yes, it certainly is. When I first started I did have a small cabinet refacing company but for the last year and a half my DJ services have been my professional services and this is great because it allows me to put my time, my energies right into the service that I love to do and provide my clients with the prompt, reliable service that they deserve and even allows me to add more value because I’m able to recruit vendor partners that provide gift certificate of their services and I can pass them along to the clients and provide some savings on other services that they might need for their events, weddings and another thing that you might want to notice is that I have some great venue reviews on my website. I’m reviewing some of the venues and they’ll give you the ins and outs of what to look for in the venues around Vancouver. Mark: So, can I come see you at a wedding before I book your services? Gary: I would like to have all my prospective clients come and see me in action whenever I have a public performance. I always encourage that, however, my private functions such as wedding, it’s not possible, most clients understand that they themselves would be more than a little upset if I brought unknown persons to their private function, so it works that way. Party crashers are usually not welcome or wedding crashers. I do have lots of videos though of events that I have done on my website and I can also send you some more and I’m always happy to answer any questions that you may have and offer suggestions on how to present and how to organize the music portion of your event. Mark: Sure, do you have any references? Gary: Yes, a lot of references, some of them are linking to videos of the events; in addition I have a few video testimonials as well. I always follow up with a client which is why it’s important when we do the contract that you get your correct address on the contract and contact info, I always like to send clients a little thank you, something from me to say thank you for hiring me and I like to follow up to see how I did. As a matter of fact I just had one of my little thank you cards come back to me because the client had moved and not put in a forwarding address so unfortunately I wasn’t able to follow up and they lost out on my little gift. Mark: So how many weddings and events have you done? Gary: A lot, I have done a lot. Since coming back to Canada from Japan in 2000, I’ve completed over 1,800 successful weddings and events both as a DJ for other companies and from my own company DJ Boogie Shoes Karaoke Services. Also in the eighties I was a professional singer and guitarist, performed in Los Vegas, Reno and internationally as well as in Canada, so add this to my DJ experience, you can well imagine I have lots of musical and event experience. I pretty much have seen it all in terms of weddings and events having clients from Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Europe, first and second generation Canadians from many different cultures as well as homegrown Canadians. So one great thing about this business though is there’s always something new, for example when I did the Dubai wedding down at the private club down in Vancouver was the first time I had seen so much gold, jewels and cash on the table at one time at a public place.
